Description
This project is a redesign of my existing “Shockin’ Goblin” freelance design logo.
About the design
This new logo more clearly depicts a goblin, while using a green colour more typical of the creature. Influences for the design could be attributed to the work of Jim Phillips (Santa Cruz Surfboards illustrator) and the artwork of other surf brands.
Design process
The design process started with many sketches to establish the concept and then the composition - finally deciding on the “tongue out” design. Then followed more sketches to determine the style - which originally went down a “Manga” art route until switching to this more surf culture influenced design which worked much better. A final sketch was scanned into the computer, brought into CorelDRAW, “quick traced” to turn into a vector, then painstakingly tweaked and coloured to end up with the finished design.
The name's origin
The name "Shockin' Goblin" is derived from my surname "Hocking"... "Shockin" was a name given to me at college and then again later at ITW Industry - purely based on rhyming I should add!, while "Goblin" is what mobile phones predict when my surname is typed!
